DESCRIPTION:PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to all persons concerned that on the 17th day of April\, 2024\, at 7:00 p.m.\, the Plan Commission of the City of Batavia will meet and a Public Hearing will be held pursuant to Chapter 5.2 and 5.8 of the Batavia Zoning Code to consider the adoption of the draft Batavia Downtown Plan as an Area Plan element of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Public Hearing will be held to accept and consider testimony from the public concerning the Downtown Plan. The proposed Batavia Downtown Plan would establish goals and policies specific to the downtown area.  It would be adopted as part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan for the Downtown Area.  The Plan will provide policy and land use recommendations specific to the Downtown Area through Functional Subareas.  The plan also included design guidelines and implementation elements specific to the downtown area. \nThe Public Hearing Draft of the Plan may be viewed at: https://batavia-il-downtown-plan-hlplanning.hub.arcgis.com/. \n  \nThe Downtown Area as defined in the Plan is in the central quadrant of the City roughly bounded between Lincoln Street to the west\, Union Avenue to the southwest\, Webster Street to the Southeast\, Delia Street to the east\, and Madison Street to the north\, an area commonly known as Downtown Batavia. \n  \nThe proposed Batavia Downtown Plan may be changed\, altered\, modified\, amended\, or redrafted after the public hearing. \n  \nInformation regarding the proposed amendments is available for review at the Community and Economic Development Department in the City of Batavia Government Center Building during normal business hours. Batavia Ave. The public is invited to attend these free programs\, presented September through May\, on the third Thursday of the month. Reservations are not required. \nThe 2023-2024 season opens on Sept. 21 with Kate Garrett\, director of the Batavia Depot Museum\, discussing "Over My Dead Body: Unearthing the Hidden History of America’s Cemeteries" by Greg Melville. A journalist\, Melville visits local cemeteries wherever he travels and in this book\, he invites readers to join him. From colonists’ hasty burials to the leisure parks that inspired the Transcendentalists\, Melville sees cemeteries as windows to understanding American history. Garrett\, a Batavia resident\, is a lifelong learner who feels about libraries the way Melville feels about cemeteries. \nThe season continues on Oct. 19 with local author Annie Hansen\, and her new novel "Get a Grip." On Nov. 16\, Pam Otto\, outreach ambassador for the St. Charles Park District and creator of the weekly "Good Natured" column\, shares a favorite that was a bestseller in 1942: "We Took To the Woods" by Louise Dickinson Rich. Books Between Bites will be hosted one week early in December\, on Dec. 14\, as Batavia’s city administrator\, Laura Newman\, discusses two autobiographies by Madeleine Albright: "Madam Secretary" and "Hell and Other Destinations." \nThe series kicks off 2024 on Jan. 18 with Mayor Jeff Schielke sharing what he has researched as "The Back Story of Batavia History." On Feb. 15\, we introduce our new executive director of Batavia Public Library\, Josephine Tucci. She shares her special interest in "Scandinavian and British Mysteries." Former ESPN senior writer and legal analyst\, Lester Munson\, returns with his sports perspectives on March 21\, discussing "The Tao of the Backup Catcher" by Tim Brown and Erik Kratz. \nLocal author Marnie O. Mamminga will introduce her new book for children\, "The Woodpecker’s Song\," on April 18. She will be joined by her illustrator\, Mary C. Parks.
