Mary Karavos is a fine artist who works in the realm of paper fibre art, creating multi-dimensional mosaic-like images using torn pieces of the finest Japanese, Nepalese, Korean and specialty papers.

Her artistic foundation began in painting, drawing and sculpture. It was during her undergraduate studies at the Ontario College of Art off campus in Florence, Italy that Mary felt boundless inspiration that led her to a new artistic expression.

“I am inspired by the process of exploration, discovery , challenges and spontaneity. Each piece of art is unique, beginning with one fragment of paper and building layer upon layer, creating depth and detail that continues to surprise. The natural world and music are also an endless source of inspiration”

Mary actively exhibits and sells her work and has won numerous awards in her career, most notably the “Prix du Jury” at the Societe’ National des Beaux-Arts (Carrousel du Louvre), Paris, France and the “Bronze Medal” from the Arts- Science-Lettres Academy of Paris.

Her work has been internationally exhibited in Monaco, France, Italy, Chicago and the Affordable Art Fairs in New York, London, Singapore and Amsterdam. Locally Karavos has been an award recipient twice at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and she exhibits annually at the Artist Project, The One of a Kind Winter show, and the Guelph Studio Tour, to name a few.

Mary currently lives and works in Guelph, ON.
